HOK a loogie

HOK a loogie

The people at H.O.K. are quite brilliant. They've sold the same stadium plans to almost a dozen cities now. I like Citizen's Bank Park alright... much more than the Vet of course - but it's nothing special. I guess it's better to have a nice cookie-cutter stadium than a crappy cookie-cutter, but for whatever hundred million dollars - I'd like something where it doesn't take 45 minutes to struggle your way through the overcrowded outfield concourse.

So when H.O.K. comes to your town to pitch Camden Yards 2.0, take a good long look before you accept.

I'm ready willing and able... I've got cable.

Have you seen those goofy commercials for 800-OK-CABLE? They're funny...

Watch here and here. (there's another one with just a woman singing, I can't find that one - chime in if you've seen it online)

Primp your PowerBook (or iBook)

Primp your PowerBook (or iBook)

If you've got a PowerBook or an iBook and have ever used Windows - you're probably missing that old "right-click" trick. Well - a must have Mac add on gives it to you and much MUCH more. SideTrack from Raging Menance is really worth downloading (and buying). In addition to using the edges of the trackpad to scroll vertically and horizontally (tracing your finger up and down, for example, scrolls the window up and down - much like a scroll wheel on a mouse) you can create tap corners with custom functions. Here's what I've assigned the corners on my trackpad (currently with OS X Panther, and how I will set it up with OS X Tiger).

A - Exposé - zoom all windows
B - Exposé - zoom application windows (Panther)
B - Dashboard - show all widgets (Tiger)
C - Exposé - show desktop
D - Right Click (ctrl-click)

What looks good

Here are a few things I've been eyeing lately: (ranging from the merely extravagant, all the way to ridiculous)

- Pentax Optio 5si 5 MP Camera
- PalmOne Treo 650 (with Sprint PCS service)
- Any of these over-the-top plaid "things"
- 300C or Prius

Snow

weather.jpg

Here comes some more snow folks. They're saying 5-7" or 6-8" - not to shabby. Not such a big deal, since a lot of people have tomorrow off (President's Day, anyone?). I of course, do not.

No webcam this time - sorry! (My iSight is in Jersey City - I'm weathering this storm in New Jersey's "Brick City" - Newark)

Jersey City's latest drive in...

Jersey City's latest drive in...

Looks like somebody decided to start a new drive through market near
the Grove Street PATH station yesterday. You might not be able to tell
from the picture... but some idiot drove into the "Fresh Bite
Market" - ooops.

Cable boy!?!?!

Cable boy!?!?!

"Cable boy. Cable boy. What have you done to my little cable boy!"

My cable is out - so no internet, TV or phone until tomorrow morning. I've got nothing against Comcast... I think somebody just unplugged something in my basement. Speaking of Comcast - they just broke ground on a 975 foot building in Philadelphia. For those of you keeping score, that's almost 200 feet taller than New Jersey's tallest building (the Goldman Sachs Tower in my Jersey City).

The Gates, Central Park, New York, 1979-2005

The Gates, Central Park, New York, 1979-2005

I just got back from Christo and Jeanne-Claude's Gates in Central Park. You can see some of the pictures I took here, and read about what's what in the NY Times online. It's really amazing - a must see. I walked from Columbus Circle (59th Street) all the way to the top (110th and 5th) - so I'm a little too tired to extensive comments - but you cannot perceive how big this is from the pictures. And as big as it is - the scope is small and local. Bravo.

Have you seen this computer?

Have you seen this computer?

A panicked call from a friend today reminded me that Apple's iBook logic board repair program ends soon. If you've got an iBook made between 2001 and 2003 - you might be due for a free fix from Apple. The issue results in the screen either being blank or really screwed up. You've got until March 18th to have them fix it, if you are eligible. Saved Geoff's butt... maybe your's too.

In case you don't keep track of the sports teams I follow, the Philadelphia Eagles lost the Super Bowl on Sunday, the #1 ranked Boston College hockey team lost to arch-rival BU on Monday and the #4 ranked BC basketball team lost to arch-rival Notre Dame on tuesday, ending their perfect season.

Great.

Ben Folds

Ben just came out with a new single, from a soon to be released album (soon as in April). There's also going to be a re-mastered "whatever and ever amen" CD with 7 classic bonus tracks. The single is called Landed, and right now it's #8 for singles on iTunes. Not bad. Click away and make it number one (buy it twice, if you have to - actually, don't. That's stupid)

Dear Friend,

With due respect, trust and humility, I write you this
proposal, Which I believe would be of great interest to
you. I am Mr.Kenneth Bello, a Banker with first national
Bank of South African,Randburg-Johannesburg branch.A client
of ours,A Director General in Gold
and Mining firm deposited a large sum of money in our
branch, the funds has being lying in this Bank without
anyone to claim the funds for a very long time now.

So... do you get about a thousand of these emails a day too? They're called "419" scams (named after the chapter of the Nigerian penal code that they violate). You might be thinking - aside from not falling for these stupid scams, what can I do? Well... check out this site. Just by visiting you're helping to put an end to some of the scams by overloading the websites of the fake banks and phony escrow companies. Reload it a few times... and head back on their "flash mob" action days... where they'll have thousands of people overloading the worst of the fake banks. I've got a new favorite tort: trespass to chattels.
